We've been receiving lots of great feedback about our device. With that feedback, comparisons have been made to quite a few other vaporizers, including the Crafty and the Pax 3. We wanted to take this opportunity to make a few comparisons of our own...
Let's talk about the PAX 3 and our Alternate. These 2 devices address different price points in the market. A brand new PAX 3 will set you back around $275. An authentic Alternate will cost around $130. At about twice the price, is the PAX 3 worth it?
Let's start with the PAX 3.
The PAX 3 device is discreet and minimalistic. It's small enough to fit into the pocket of the world's tightest skinny jeans. The device is devoid of branding and is embellished solely by a small LED-lit 'X' symbol. We love the minimalistic aesthetic of the device. It's clean and simple like a brand new iPhone and it doesn't draw unwanted attention when you need it to be stealthy.
We are a bit jealous of the PAX's app. If you haven't used the PAX 3 before, its app allows you to customize settings for temperature, lighting, and cooldown periods. You can choose between a few preset modes, including standard, flavor, boost, efficiency, and stealth.
The PAX 3 comes with a few accessories, one of them being a container that allows you to vaporize either wax or oil concentrates. Not everyone prefers waxes/concentrates but generally, it's nice to have the option. If you're a new patient at a clinic, chances are you may find yourself with some freebies that you'll need to use the container attachment for. Covering all the bases means these goods don't go to waste!
If you considered the PAX a small form factor device, you'd probably say that the Alternate is as well. They're about the same height, however, the Alternate is marginally thicker due to its internal components and heat exchange system. The matte black finish gives the Alternate a modern look, and its highlights give it some extra personality. The heat sink fins that compose the shell of the device disperse heat and add to the device's ergonomics.
Call us hipsters, but we do things the old fashioned way, with clicky buttons and an OLED display. The Alternate's interface allows users to set up custom temperatures for their sessions. The Alternate can heat up to a maximum temperature of 428F but we recommend 358 for best results.
The controls also offer our users a few customizability options. You can increase your session time from 1 minute up to 5 minutes. You can enable stealth mode, flip the screen, adjust buzzer volume, or lock your device.
If you haven't already visited the firmware page we've pushed our first update live. Go ahead and check it out here (firmware updates). We will continue to improve the performance and convenience of the Alternate as time goes on.
Each Alternate that you purchase from Vivant comes with a kit of accessories and replacement parts. Among these accessories is a concentrate pad that allows users pack and vaporizer wax.
We designed our grinder as a partner piece to the Alternate. The grinder is meant to double as a carrying case for your extra buds and its modular design makes loading your bowls a breeze. It's loaded with magnets, meaning that if you put it in your bag, herbal dust won't be coated on your belongings the next time you check on them. The grinder will be available separately on our site for those who would like an extra!
In conclusion, we believe that both devices are fantastic. It'd be biased for us to recommend one over the other (*cough* the Alternate is better *cough*). Here's a synopsis of each unit's key features.
